Wentworth Wooden Puzzles is based in the middle of the Wiltshire countryside, and so our local community is very important to us. After all, it’s where most of the people who design, make and dispatch our puzzles live, plus it’s where their family and friends are.
There has never been a more important time to come together as a community and support each other in any way we could, and during the COVID-19 situation, we noticed many selfless volunteers doing all they could to help others in need, for no reward, such as countless shopping rounds or collecting prescriptions for those who were shielding.
As well as this, there were some brave volunteers undertaking challenging tasks in order to raise money for local charities and organisations. Including a man from Malmesbury who raised over £3,000 for the local foodbank by completing an Iron Man in his own back garden!
To say thank you to some of these wonderful volunteers, in the only way we could, we wanted to treat some local heroes to their own Wentworth Wooden Puzzle. We knew many of them they didn’t like to sing their own praises, so we turned to social media, to ask our followers to nominate anyone they thought deserved a gift from us.
Here are just a few of our Local Heroes that stood out to us...
Raewyn Platts
Raewyn, from Tetbury, was the winner of our Local Heroes, nominated for making a difference in her local area through all of her wonderful volunteering – doing countless medical and shopping rounds, and helping numerous vulnerable people in and around the local area – all alongside working her usual job. She chose our ‘World Travel Guides‘ Jigsaw Puzzle as her prize
Freddie Hamilton
Freddie, from Malmesbury, who despite his hatred of running, set himself a challenge to run a mile a day for a whole week to raise money for the NHS. With support of the Fire Service, nurses and the town residents cheering him along the way, he smashed his initial target of £50 and ended up raising over £2,600!
We thought he was so inspirational, that we wanted him to send a puzzle to say well done – he chose our ‘The Call to Adventure‘ jigsaw puzzle, which he hope he enjoys! If you also love Animal and Nature jigsaw puzzles, see our entire collection of wildlife themed puzzles!

Thom Clarke
Thom is also undertaking a big challenge – walking 1,000 miles! Aiming to raise £1000 for Ronald McDonald House Bristol, a charity which provides accommodation for families while their children are in critical care, allowing them to be close by while they are in hospital, providing much needed emotional support.
As a well done present from his mum for his determination for every 300 miles, he gets treated to one of our puzzles – his first 300 reward was our ‘Dragon‘ specially-shaped puzzle! Shaped puzzles are one of our best-selling puzzle categories, and we can see why! Unlike standard cardboard puzzles, these wooden jigsaw puzzles provide an engaging and elusive challenge with no straight-edged corner pieces to be found!
We hope it keeps you entertained in between all of your walks Thom! You can find more information about Thom and his challenge, including his progress on his JustGiving Page.
