Jigsaw Puzzles: A Perfect Fit for Mental Well-being

11th - 17th May

Mental Health Awareness Week

12th - 18th May 2025

This week, we're proud to support better mental health by donating 20% of all Mini Mindful Puzzle sales to the Mental Health Foundation and Mental Health America

This year, Mental Health Awareness Week will take place from 11th - 17th May 2026. The theme for 2026 as set by the Mental Health Foundation is: Take Action

"This Mental Health Awareness Week we’re asking people to join us in taking action to support good mental health. Even small actions can help us feel hopeful and less powerless. And while our individual actions matter, when we come together we are even more powerful." - mentalhealth.org.uk

We know the puzzle community is a special place — somewhere people can come together to talk all things adult jigsaw puzzles, share dissectologist tips and techniques, and enjoy the company of fellow puzzle lovers. Along the way, conversations often turn to the many benefits of puzzling, including how jigsaw puzzles for adults can support relaxation, mindfulness, and mental wellbeing. We wanted to part of these conversations, and take action because we know jigsaw puzzles can be beneficial for mental health, whether you're a pro puzzler, or someone who's just getting started with jigsaws.

To help spread even more puzzle joy far and wide, while supporting better mental health through our wooden puzzles, we’ve proudly donated puzzles to Mind and Good360.

We heard back from Mind about how our puzzles will become part of their Mind Time sessions — a community peer support programme offering a range of activities designed to support wellbeing. We’re delighted that our puzzles can now be part of those sessions, helping to create a calm and relaxing environment that can have a positive impact on mental health.

"At Swindon and Gloucestershire Mind, we recognise the value of simple, engaging activities as a way to support mental health and wellbeing. Puzzles can provide calming focus and reduce stress as well as providing a sense of achievement which all can be beneficial for mental health.
Within our Mind Time group spaces, we have a lot of keen puzzlers who love the mindfulness aspect of using puzzles and, as a team, we're really excited to use these generously donated puzzles to help create a relaxed and inclusive environment for the people we support" - Swindon and Gloucestershire Mind

In addition to our donation to Mind, we’ve also donated puzzles to Good360, a US-based non-profit that redistributes donated goods to communities and organisations where they can make the greatest impact. Through this partnership, our wooden puzzles can reach mental health support groups, care organisations, and community programmes, helping more people enjoy meaningful moments of relaxation, connection, and wellbeing.

Are Jigsaw Puzzles Good for Mental Health?

In the fast paced, technology packed world of today, many people are embracing ways of enhancing their mental well-being. Solving jigsaw puzzles is a fun, engaging and screen-free way to improve mental health.

Jigsaw puzzles have become increasingly popular as a tool for promoting and improving mental well-being. The act of completing a jigsaw puzzle offers several benefits that can contribute to a healthier mind:

  • Stress Reduction: The focused attention required to piece together a puzzle can help divert attention from worries and anxieties, providing a much-needed mental break.
  • Mindfulness: The process of carefully examining and fitting pieces can help you to practice mindfulness, helping individuals stay present in the moment.
  • Cognitive Stimulation: Jigsaw puzzles can challenge the brain in a positive way, improving problem-solving skills, memory, and concentration.
  • Sense of Achievement: Completing a puzzle can provide a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction, boosting self-esteem and motivation.

World Mental Health Day

This Mental Health Awareness Day we wanted to focus on the benefits of using jigsaw puzzles to help you bring mindfulness into your everyday life. To discover a bit more about how mindfulness can help you, read our interview with mindfullness expert Alexander Ong who talks to us about what exactly mindfulness is, and how jigsaw puzzles can be the perfect way to practice it.

World Mental Health Day is celebrated annually on October 10th. It is a global day dedicated to raising awareness about mental health issues, promoting understanding, and reducing stigma associated with mental illnesses. The goal of this day is to encourage people to seek help and support, and to advocate for better mental health services worldwide.
