Turning Black Friday Green

Puzzlers, we’re excited to share that, thanks to your support on Green Friday, we’ve planted 1,976 trees! Partnering with Ecologi means that they will use their expertise to select the best type of tree and plant it where it is needed most. 

Thank you to everyone who purchased a wood puzzle on Green Friday and supported our tree planting pledge. With the help of our customers we now have over 71,852 trees in our Wentworth Puzzle Forest. 

This year, the trees we’ve helped to plant are being established across several regions where they’re needed most, including Mozambique, Uganda, and Tanzania. These plantings are carried out in partnership with Eden Reforestation Projects and Trees for the Future. Due to the climates of these locations, most of the trees are dry deciduous species, chosen specifically to restore degraded land and re-establish healthy, thriving ecosystems. Beyond their environmental benefits, these projects also help prevent further deforestation by creating sustainable livelihoods and reducing local poverty.

In previous years, the trees we've helped plant have been mangrove trees, which are highly effective at absorbing carbon and storing it within their extensive underground root systems, while also providing vital protection against flooding and storm surges in coastal areas. Part of Ecologi’s mission is to support tree planting initiatives in the places where they can make the greatest difference — delivering lasting benefits to both the land and the communities that depend on it.

In our eyes, Black Friday doesn't have to be a bad thing as there are ways to buy better and minimise your mindless shopping whilst still purchasing the things you love. Buying products that are made to last or creating a curated list so you don't stray are a couple of starting points to improve impulse purchases and stop you from jumping aboard the Black Friday bargain bandwagon. 

In previous years to help make Black Friday a little greener we have taken part in Green Friday. Green Friday is movement that encourages shoppers to adopt more ethical and mindful methods of shopping, often opting to shop from sustainable and ethical brands. Green Friday is growing rapidly each year, with more brands supporting this eco ethos and more consumers standing in solidarity with sustainable shopping habits.

For the last five years we have partnered with Ecologi to encourage a more sustainable shopping experience by pledging to plant trees for every purchase made on Green Friday.  Puzzlers who purchase from us do so with the reassurance that our wooden jigsaw puzzles are produced using sustainably sourced wood, our puzzle boxes are made using recyled materials, and our catalogues are made using FSC certified paper. So, as well as helping to plant trees, by investing in one of our English jigsaw puzzles you are purchasing a piece of beautiful, British craftsmanship.

Ensuring that the wood used for our puzzles is sourced sustainably, removing single-use plastic from our packaging process, and replacing it with more sustainable alternatives. All our reusable puzzle boxes are now made using recycled materials here in the UK. But, most importantly our English jigsaw puzzles are made to last.
