Whitby Abbey, North Yorkshire

The hauntingly spectacular Gothic ruins of Whitby Abbey have towered over the picturesque fishing port for hundreds of years. Battered by time, weather and war, they are still immensely impressive, attracting and inspiring thousands of visitors each year.
The abbey was built in the 13th century on the site of a much older Anglo-Saxon monastery, founded in AD 657 by its abbess, St Hild. It was an important centre of worship and learning, but it was abandoned after Viking raids in the 9th century. The later Benedictine monastery was suppressed by Henry VIII in 1539 and fell into ruin, but the vast shell of the abbey church remains a magnificent example of English Gothic architecture. Bram Stoker was inspired to write Dracula after a visit to Whitby in 1890.
With hand-designed shaped whimsy pieces inspired by the abbey ruins and Dracula, this puzzle is full of fun and history for everyone to enjoy.
