This Fine Art image is an oil-on-panel by the renowned Flemish Renaissance artist, Pieter Bruegel the Elder, painted in 1566. This magnificent painting is currently held and exhibited at the Royal Museums of Fine Art of Belgium in Brussels, which was acquired in 1902.

This snowy scene is one of the first paintings in Western art to feature a significant snow landscape and was painted in the aftermath of the winter of 1565, which was one of the harshest winters on record.

Now created in jigsaw form, this is a beautiful, traditional image for wintertime puzzlers. Complete with themed whimsy pieces inspired by this Wintry artwork, what a delight for this festive season.

    • How thick are the puzzle pieces?
All of our puzzles are made from a 4mm thick sustainably sourced wooden composite.
    • What are whimsy pieces?
Whimsies are essentially a puzzle piece crafted into a recognisable shape such as a flower or bird and are an historical link to the Victorian puzzle-making past. As the name suggests, the original Victorian puzzle cutters added the individual pieces on a whim and so the term ‘whimsy’ was born.
    • Do all puzzles have whimsy pieces?
Our expert jigsaw designers incorporate whimsy pieces into all of our puzzles, apart from our ‘Extra Difficult’ range.
    • Where are Wentworth Wooden Puzzles made?
We have been producing unique and intricately crafted wooden jigsaw puzzles at our factory in the heart of the Wiltshire countryside since 1991.
