Stonehenge, Wiltshire
Stonehenge is an icon of England, and one of the world?s most famous prehistoric sites. The stone circle, which is aligned with the movements of the sun, was built around 4,500 years ago.
It?s an astonishing testament to the engineering skills and communal effort of prehistoric people ? transporting the stones over long distances and raising them into position involved huge amounts of labour.
There has long been debate about the meaning and function of Stonehenge, and archaeologists still advance new theories about why it was built. But the orientation of the stones to the rising and setting of the sun at the summer and winter solstices shows that these times were important for Stonehenge?s builders and their descendants, and it was undoubtedly a site of great spiritual significance.
The Stonehenge stones are reflected as whimsy pieces in this puzzle, along with links to archaology and the summer solstice. This jigsaw puzzle also includes the English Heritage logo.
The logo is not included in the 40 piece puzzle.

As the name suggests, the original Victorian puzzle cutters added the individual pieces on a whim and so the term ‘whimsy’ was born. - Do all puzzles have whimsy pieces?
