Gallery of Views of Ancient Rome
'Gallery with Views of Ancient Rome was commissioned in 1957 for Étienne François, Count of Stainville to commemorate his stay as the French ambassador to the Vatican.
The artist, Giovanni Paolo Panini, who was renowned as a celebrated 'vedutisti' (view painter), depicted the Duke de Choiseul surrounded by a gallery of views of Rome from that time, including The Pantheon, the Colosseum, Trajan’s Column, and the Laocoön. Also featured are iconic statues by Michelangelo and Bernini. The original is now housed at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, but you can have your own version of this masterpiece in a wooden jigsaw puzzle form to enjoy at home.
