Repetitive Pieces
Unlike our standard puzzles cuts, which contain irregular-shaped pieces and whimsy shapes, our Extra Difficult Puzzles have repetitive, interlocking tessellated pieces. They often fit together in perplexing and intricate ways.
Some of our extra difficult puzzle pieces resemble the theme of the puzzle, such as Elephant shaped pieces in ‘Dust to Dust’, Chicken and Egg Shaped Pieces in ‘Egg-Squisite Eggs’, or stars in a Christmas Puzzle.
One of the things that people point out is that the piece count for our Extra Difficult puzzles can seem low, but trust us, it’s in the cut of the pieces, not the number, that counts! Most of our challenging puzzles fall between 250 – 300 pieces which will provide hours and hours of demanding puzzle fun!
Uneven Edge
When most people start a jigsaw puzzle, they hunt out all of the straight-edged pieces so they can find the ‘border’ of the puzzle. So to make our extra difficult puzzles that bit harder, we took away the ‘safety blanket’ straight edge around the outside!
Although it may only seem like a slight change initially, the uneven edge definitely adds a mischievous element to the puzzles, as you won’t know which pieces are in the middle or on the outside – and often times the puzzle image doesn’t help either, you won’t know where to start – it can really baffle even competent puzzlers!
Challenging Artwork
The challenge of a hard puzzle doesn’t just lie within the pieces. We hand-pick especially interesting artwork for our challenging puzzles, usually something repetitive with lots of confusing colours such as a pile of sweets or painted Easter Eggs! Of course, sometimes we use black and white images such as a huddle of penguins, or the zebra stripes in this Mini Mindful puzzle, which makes up for difficulty what it lacks in colour! We’ve introduced some interesting Computer generated images too, particularly for our Gradient collection
Our product team curate only the most taxing artwork before being trialled by experienced puzzle testers being certified as Extra Difficult. So you can be assured when you try one for yourself, that you really are taking on a challenge!
