We are very proud to work with so many fantastic female artists, licensors, and colleagues. With International Women’s Day coming up on 8th March we wanted to showcase jigsaw puzzles designed by and featuring talented and influential women.
International Women’s Day is a day dedicated to recognising the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality. The theme of this year’s International Women’s Day is #EmbraceEquity.
We wanted to share some of the puzzles that can help you commemorate International Women’s Day and celebrate the special and influential women in your life.
This puzzle features contemporary illustrations of icons such as Frida Kahlo, Anne Frank and Rosa Parks. If you don’t know who some of these women are, you can learn about them with the accompanying guide and match the pieces to the pictures. In this puzzle, you’ll also find intricately cut, hand-designed whimsy pieces of inspiring women to help you celebrate this special day. Some of these women include:
Hedi Lamar who was known for being on the silver screen as ‘the most beautiful women in the world’. However, at the height of her film career, she invented the technology that formed the basis for all modern wireless communications, including Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth. Pretty cool right!
Anne Frank is considered one of the most well-known Jewish victims of the Holocaust. She achieved posthumous recognition and fame with the 1947 publication of ‘The Diary of a Young Girl’, the journal in which she documented her life in hiding from 1942-1944.
Malala Yousafzai is the youngest person ever to win the Nobel Peace Prize and has become well-known in the international community for her diary detailing life under Taliban rule. Since then, she has become a voice for education and equality all around the world. Now, each year on July 12th it is Malala Day, an important day in global activism that recognises her work to advocate for human rights, particularly the right of women to have an education.
Frida Kahlo isn’t only celebrated for her artistic talents, but her life has also been a beacon for the feminist movement. For fans of Frida, we also have a puzzle of ‘Self-Portrait with Thorn Necklace and Hummingbird’ which is one of her own masterpieces.
Amelia Earhart became the first women to fly solo across the Atlantic, as a pilot in 1932. She set many flying records and championed the advancement of women in aviation. For her accomplishments alone, Earthart earned herself a degree of legendary status.
Today we celebrate all women, from mothers and sisters to aunties, grandmothers, nieces, friends and beyond, we all have someone to admire and appreciate this International Women’s Day.
Be sure to share your puzzle adventures this International Women’s Day and every other day using #WentworthPuzzles.
