One of London?s best kept secrets, Eltham Palace is an eclectic combination of art deco modernism and original medieval remains. It was one of England?s largest royal palaces and the childhood home of Henry VIII. By the 20th century much of it was in ruins, but in 1933 Stephen and Virginia Courtauld took a 99-year lease from the crown and set about transforming the medieval palace into a cutting-edge home.
Working with designers, artists and architects from across the world, Stephen and Virginia spared no expense as they created a dazzling mansion containing all the very latest mod-cons. From the shimmering aluminium-leaf ceiling of the dining room to the gold-plated taps and Classical statue above Virginia?s bath, Eltham?s interiors hit the heights of interwar sophistication. The Courtaulds installed showers, a built-in audio system and heated living quarters for their beloved pet lemur. They also restored the medieval Great Hall and created a series of colourful gardens in and around the palace?s old moat.

All of our puzzles are made from a 4mm thick sustainably sourced wooden composite. - What are whimsy pieces?
Whimsies are essentially a puzzle piece crafted into a recognisable shape such as a flower or bird and are an historical link to the Victorian puzzle-making past. As the name suggests, the original Victorian puzzle cutters added the individual pieces on a whim and so the term ‘whimsy’ was born. - Do all puzzles have whimsy pieces?
