While creating our puzzle collections, we are fortunate to collaborate with talented artists like Richard Macneil aka The Macneil Studio. Through our partnership with Macneil, we bring puzzlers new and exclusive designs, that can’t be found on other wooden puzzles. Macneil is proudly represented by Art Licensing International, and together they help us discover and create distinctive artwork that we transform into beautifully crafted wooden jigsaw puzzles for adults.

A little bit more about The Macneil Studio
Richard Macneil is a self-taught British artist whose career has spanned sculpture, ceramics, and graphic design. Born in Worcester in 1958, he began at Worcester Royal Porcelain and went on to work internationally, including many years in the USA, where his company, Bronn, created large, exclusive sculptures of American Western art. His work even reached the Oval Office.
After returning to Worcestershire, Richard freelanced as an artist and card designer before founding The Macneil Studio in 2009 with his wife and sons. Today, his artwork is licensed worldwide and appears on gifts, homewares, and paper products across the globe.
How would you describe your art?
I like to infuse a sense of connection within my designs. Whether you’re a child excited for Christmas or an adult decorating their home, I want people to look at my designs and find joy in them.
Where do you draw inspiration from?
Nature inspires me. I am always going out on trips to the countryside for inspiration, often with my camera. I love Christmas! Always have since a young boy. It is the magical time of year that we all look forward to at the end of the year, spending time with family. I try to capture the essence of Christmas in my paintings. I like spending time with my Church over the holiday period, especially attending Midnight Mass with my family.
Do you have any ‘signature’ techniques, styles or processes that we should look out for in your art?
I’ve always felt that my style is distinct from others in the art field. I accomplish that by continuously learning and applying new techniques when creating a design.
How do you feel about your art being made into wooden jigsaw puzzles?
I love that my designs have found a place in the puzzle community. It’s great to think of all the different ways my images can bring a happy moment to a family.
Do you ever complete a wooden puzzle yourself?
Yes, when I have time. I enjoy the quiet time as well as creating moments to gather with my family.
As an artist what do you feel makes a good jigsaw puzzle image?
Detail, colour, and light help to make a great image for puzzling.
